Rockhurst hosts GLVC West foe in Truman State

The Rockhurst Hawks (12-12, 7-9 GLVC) host the Truman State Bulldogs (18-8, 10-6 GLVC) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup at 3 p.m. Saturday (February 20) at Mason-Halpin Field House.

"Truman plays smart, they shoot it well, and play well together," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They have a lot more assists than turnovers, a testament to their execution and cohesiveness. They have a nice program going on up  there. Their style and brand is successful."

Junior guard Malachi Nix leads the GLVC and ranks 20th in the nation in assists (5.6). Nix also stands 14th in steals (1.4), ninth in assist/turnover ratio and ninth in minutes played (32.5) in the GLVC.

Sophomore forward Alex Hagan ranks seventh in rebounding (6.9) and third in offensive rebounds (2.5) in the GLVC. Junior forward Adam Fatkin stands fourth in field goal percentage (60.3) in the GLVC.

The Hawks rank third in scoring defense (72.5), third in 3-point field goal percentage defense (32.4) and fifth in rebounding margin (+2.1) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst suffered a 79-74 loss to Quincy Thursday night at Mason-Halpin. Levan led the Hawks with 19 points. Washington posted 17 points and seven rebounds. Fatkin collected 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nix finished with eight points and six assists. Hagan added seven points and 10 rebounds. Rockhurst shot 40.3 percent from the field (27 of 67) and outrebounded Quincy, 48-38.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 98-83 victory at home over William Jewell Thursday night. Junior forward Billy Daniel led Truman State with 27 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Cole Myers leads the Bulldogs in scoring (12.5, 27th in GLVC). Junior guard Kyle Kanaskie ranks 28th in scoring (12.3) and fourth in free throw percentage (89.7) in the GLVC.
