Box Score Rockhurst shot a season-best 62.3 percent to capture its biggest win of the season. The Hawks nearly led from start to finish in posting a 98-93 victory over Indianapolis Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
The Hawks, 11-11 and 6-8 in the GLVC, host Saint Joseph's on Saturday (February 13). Indianapolis, 17-5 and 11-3 in the GLVC, defeated the Hawks 88-49 last year at Rockhurst.
"That was an outstanding all-around performance by our guys,"Â said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "Every member of the team contributed. We really fought hard. That was a lot of fun to watch."
Six players scored in double figures for the Hawks. Dominique Washington led Rockhurst with 20 points on eight-of-12 shooting. John Burke scored a season-high 17 points on five-of-six shooting.
Malachi Nix collected 16 points, four rebounds and five assists. Austin LeVan came off the bench to score 16 points on five-of-10 shooting. Alex Hagan and Adam Fatkin added 11 points apiece while combining for 13 rebounds.
Rockhurst made its first eight shots of the game to take a 20-10 lead with 14:12 left in the first half. The Hawks led 45-43 at halftime behind 68.0 percent shooting. The Greyhounds led by two points, 60-58, with 12:05 left.
The Hawks went on a 15-5 run to take a 73-65 lead with 7:49 remaining. Indianapolis rallied to pull within three down the stretch. Nix iced the victory with two free throws with three seconds left.
Indianapolis made 31-of-60 shots for 51.7 percent shooting. Jordan Loyd paced the Greyhounds with 28 points.
