Box Score A late run by Rockhurst was not enough as the Hawks fell to Quincy, 75-68, Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Rockhurst scored 14 unanswered points to pull within two points, 64-62, with 5:42 left in the game. Quincy closed the game on an 11-6 run, canning four free throws in the final 24 seconds.
"Our half-court defense was very good, but they got too much in transition, which is inexcusable when we have so few offensive boards; tough outcome to swallow," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener, whose team allowed 10 fast-break points and lost the rebound battle, 37-29.
Connor Evans led the Hawks with 13 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Ellwanger came off the bench to score 13 points in his first game of the season. Gabe Brown collected 12 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Mason Loewen added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Rockhurst shot 47.9 percent from the field (23 of 48) and 54.8 percent on free throws (17 of 31). Quincy finished with a 45.5 field goal percentage (25 of 55).
The Hawks (3-4, 0-2 GLVC) will host William Jewell on Thursday, December 7.
