Hawks meet Missouri Southern in Joplin

Malachi Nix leads the Hawks in assists and steals.

The Rockhurst Hawks meet the Missouri Southern Lions for the second year in a row tonight in Joplin, Mo (7:30 p.m.).

Rockhurst won last season's meeting in Kansas City, 80-73, on Nov. 23 as the Hawks shot 50 percent from the field. Malachi Nix led Rockhurst with 25 points and five assists. Tonight's meeting will be the 46th in the all-time series. Southern leads the all-time series 25-20. The Lions have won 16 of 23 meetings at home, while Rockhurst has won 13 of 22 in Kansas City.

Junior forward Alex Hagan leads the Hawks in scoring (16.7) and rebounding (7.0). Hagan ranks 11th in scoring and 14th in rebounding in the GLVC. Kaleb Warner (16.0), Mason Loewen (10.7), Malachi Nix (10.7), Travis House (10.3) are also averaging in double figures. Warner ranks 16th in scoring in the GLVC.

The Hawks suffered a 93-72 loss at Washburn last Saturday. Rockhurst shot 45.6 percent from thefield (26 of 57) and 34.6 percent on three-point shots (nine of 26). Warner led the Hawks with 26 points and six rebounds. Warner made eight-of-15 field goals, while hitting three-of-nine three-point shots. Nix posted 14 points and five rebounds. Undra Wilson added nine points off the bench.
