Box Score Rockhurst rallied from a double-digit deficit in the last 10 minutes to tie Drury late before falling to the Panthers, 67-62, Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Drury closed the game on a 7-2 run after Dominique Washington tied the game at 60-60 on a layup with 2:13 left to play. The Panthers iced the win with two free throws with six seconds remaining.
"We really competed hard tonight," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "I thought our high turnovers could be avoided or limited. I really like how our team fights. We have scoring droughts, but continue to grind."
Drury took a 25-24 lead into halftime and jumped out to a 44-32 lead with 11:16 left to play. Rockhurst scored the next eight points to pull within four at 44-40 with 9:38 left. Washington capped a 9-2 run with a three-point play to tie the score at 58-58 in the second half at the 2:44 mark.
Washington led the Hawks with 23 points, including 19 points in the second half. He made seven-of-12 field goals and seven-of-nine free throws. Alex Hagan posted his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Roberts collected eight points and four assists.
Rockhurst shot 42.9 percent from the field (21 of 49) and 81.3 percent from the foul line (13-of-16). Drury made 25-of-47 field goals (53.2 percent) and 10-of-15 free throws (66.7 percent). Joshua Palmer paced the Panthers with 23 points.
The Hawks, 9-7 and 4-4 in the GLVC, host Missouri S&T on Saturday (January 23).
