Rockhurst meets Drury in key GLVC matchup

The Rockhurst Hawks (9-6, 4-3 GLVC) host the Drury Panthers (10-5, 5-2 GLVC) in their lone meeting of the season at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Mason-Halpin Field House. Drury defeated the Hawks, 75-60, in their last meeting at Drury last year. The Panthers have won the last nine meetings and lead the all-time series, 66-44.

"Drury has great guard play," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They will be a challenge to contain and stop from getting good looks. Our team defense needs to be very good. It's a big game for both teams."

Senior forward Dominique Washington leads the Hawks in scoring (19.3). Junior guard Malachi Nix ranks first in assists (5.9), fifth in minutes played (33.1), ninth in steals (1.6) and 20th in scoring (13.6) in the GLVC. Freshman guard Austin LeVan ranks 21st in scoring (13.5), third in 3-point field goals made (2.7) and second in free throw percentage (91.9) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Alex Hagan stands third in field goal percentage (59.1) and 13th in rebounding (6.4) in the GLVC. The Hawks rank first in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.8) and tied for second in scoring defense (70.8) in the GLVC.

Washington continued his hot hand by scoring 22 points to lead Rockhurst to an 86-78 victory at William Jewell Monday night. Washington was named the GLVC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring 44 points in two road wins last week. Nix finished 17 points and seven assists. Josh Roberts and LeVan combined for 23 points and five 3-pointers. Alex Hagan posted seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Hawks finished with 11 three-point field goals. Rockhurst shot 47.2 percent from the field (25 of 53) and 78.1 percent from the foul line (25-of-32).

The Panthers are coming off a 79-70 victory over Saint Joseph's last Saturday. Sophomore guard Tevin Foster led Drury with 18 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Kameron Bundy leads the Panthers in scoring (18.1, fifth in GLVC) and tied for fifth in three-point field goals made (2.5). Sophomore forward Drew Moore is the team leader in rebounding (6.0, 14th in GLVC). Steve Hesser is in his 12th season as Drury's head coach.
