Box Score Dominique Washington continued his hot hand by scoring 22 points to lead Rockhurst to an 86-78 victory over William Jewell Monday night in Liberty, Missouri.
Washington has scored 66 points in his last three games to help Rockhurst post three consecutive road wins. The senior center scored 12 points in the first half to help give the Hawks a 37-23 halftime at Jewell. Rockhurst shot 50.0 percent in the first half on 16-of-32 shooting.
"We opened with a great mindset," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "Our guys were determined to continue our streak. They have some nice players and actions that require great defensive focus. We shared the ball and took great shots. A lot of good things happened tonight."
Malachi Nix finished 17 points and seven assists. Josh Roberts and Austin LeVan combined for 23 points and five 3-pointers. Alex Hagan posted seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Hawks finished with 11 three-point field goals.
Rockhurst shot 47.2 percent from the field (25 of 53) and 78.1 percent from the foul line (25-of-32). Jewell made 30-of-60 field goals (50.0 percent) and 12-of-19 free throws (63.2 percent). Darius Tomlin paced the Cardinals with 23 points.
The Hawks, 9-6 and 4-3 in the GLVC, return home to host Drury on Thursday (January 21).
