Hawks travel to Liberty to meet Cardinals

Dominique Washington leads the Hawks with a 19.0 scoring average.
The Rockhurst Hawks (8-6, 3-3 GLVC) meet the William Jewell Cardinals (5-9, 0-6 GLVC) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup at 7:30 p.m. Monday (January 18) at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri.

The Cardinals won their last meeting, 87-64, at Jewell on Feb. 26, 2015. Jewell has won 11 of the last 14 meetings in the series.

"Our guys have some familiarity with Jewell due to their proximity and our recent games between the two teams," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They have some real talented guards. We respect their program and players. It will take another gutsy performance to be successful tonight."
 
Senior forward Dominique Washington leads the Hawks with an 19.0 scoring average. Freshman guard Austin LeVan ranks 20th in scoring (13.7), tied for third in 3-point field goals made (2.7) and tied for second in free throw percentage (91.4) in the GLVC. Junior guard Malachi Nix stands 21st in scoring (13.4), first in assists (5.8), ninth in steals (1.7), 12th in assist/turnover ration and fifth in minutes played (32.8) in the GLVC.

Sophomore forward Alex Hagan ranks third in field goal percentage (62.3) and 13th in rebounding (6.3) in the GLVC. Junior forward Adam Fatkin stands 10th in field goal percentage  (56.0) in the GLVC. The Hawks rank first in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.6), second in scoring defense (70.3), third in field goal percentage defense (41.5) and fifth in rebounding margin (+3.4) in the GLVC.

Nix scored eight points in overtime to lift Rockhurst to an 86-80 victory at McKendree last Saturday and give Rockhurst its second road win in two days. Washington led the Hawks with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Nix finished 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. LeVan scored 14 points. Hagan posted 12 points and nine rebounds.
