Box Score Alex Hagan keyed an 11-1 run over the final four minutes of the game to lead Rockhurst to a 78-68 victory at Illinois Springfield Thursday night.
Hagan scored five points in the final two minutes to give the Hawks a 76-68 lead. Hagan made a layup with an assist from Josh Roberts at the 1:47 mark and then drained a three-pointer with the shot clock running out with 1:08 left to play.
Joshua Brannon and Malachi Nix also sank a pair of free throws in the final stretch run, while Dominique Washington scored off an offensive rebound to give Rockhurst a 71-67 lead at the 3:05 mark.
"Both teams came out and really shot well," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We shot the three real well early. Our bench was great tonight. We had great energy and had guys get in the game and make great contributions. We made plays under five minutes to win that game. Springfield has some real offensive weapons."
Washington led the Hawks with 19 points and eight rebounds. Washington connected on seven-of-11 field goals. Nix posted 13 points, four rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Hagan finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Roberts came off the bench to score 13 points while hitting three 3-point shots. Brannon added nine points and five rebounds in a reserve role.
Rockhurst shot 45.6 percent from the field (26 of 57). Springfield made 24-of-53 field goals (45.3 percent). Zach Steinberg paced the Prairie Stars with 20 points.
The Hawks, 7-6 and 2-3 in the GLVC, play at McKendree on Saturday, January 16.
