10th-ranked Indy ends Hawk' tourney run

Bridgette Sappington shut out Illinois Springfield on four hits in the GLVC Tournament.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst's amazing run in the GLVC Championship Tournament came to an end Saturday in East Peoria, Ill. The Hawks fell to the 10th-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds 3-0 in an elimination game in the tournament.

The Hawks wrap up the season with a 28-22 record, tying the school record for most wins in a season. Rockhurst also won 28 games in 2008.

Indianapolis scored two runs in the second and added a solo home run in the fifth. Morgan Foley (32-6) held the Hawks to four hits while posting 10 strikeouts. Bridgette Sappington (22-13) allowed two unearned runs on four hits while striking out two and walking three over 4.0 innings. Gabbie Boerema led the Hawks with two hits.

Earlier in the day, Sappington held Illinois Springfield to four hits to power Rockhurt to a 1-0 victory over the Prairie Stars. Sappington struck out seven and walked two in her fourth shutout of the season. Kelsey Tepen doubled home Danielle Cross with the only run of the game in the second inning. Madison Wagner posted two of the Hawks' seven hits.
