Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored five runs in the third inning on the way to a 6-3 victory over William Jewell in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Loyola Park. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Hawks.
Matt Stacks started the five-run rally with a two-out home run to left center.
Kyle Downey added a two-run double.
Blake Petersen and
David Stober tacked on run-scoring singles.
Marr, Stacks, Downey and
Jeremy Lufft led the Hawks with two hits apiece.
Alex Merithew (3-2) gave up three runs on six hits over 5.1 innings.
Michael Lydon-Lorson got the final five outs to pick up his first save of the season.
Jewell posted an 11-2 victory over the Hawks in the first game. The Cardinals collected 13 hits off three Rockhurst pitchers. Marr led the Hawks with two hits and an RBI. Stober added two hits.
Trenton Perry (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.
Rockhurst, 12-14 and 5-9 in the GLVC, will play at Truman State on Friday.
