Joe Huber pitched his third consecutive complete game to lead Rockhurst to a 4-1 victory over the Greyhounds in the first game of the doubleheader Sunday at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Ind.
Huber (3-1) cruised through six innings without giving up a run on five hits. It wasn't until the top of the seventh inning where Indy was able to put one run on the board thanks to a leadoff double, a productive out moving the runner over, and a base hit to the right side to plate one run. Huber finished the game giving up one run on seven hits, walking one and striking out five.
The Hawks were able to score all four runs in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded, freshman outfielder
Nick Pascuzzi drove a two-run double off the right-field wall. Senior outfielder
Calin McCourt then came up next and roped another two-run double down the left-field line.
Senior second baseman
Patrick Burns, senior outfielder
Caleb Baker and redshirt junior first baseman
Blake Petersen each paced the Hawks as they collected seven of the 10 hits. Baker also added one run scored.
In the first game, Indianapolis scored four runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 6-3 win over the Hawks. Rockhurst jumped to an early 2-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by redshirt junior catcher
Dalton Thompson in the second and then an RBI groundout by redshirt senior designated hitter
Matt Stacks in the third. They were able to score one more run in the bottom of the ninth when Burns reached base on a fielding error, driving in sophomore outfielder
Dylan Brauner.
Marr, Baker and Thompson led the Hawks with two hits apiece.
Alex Merithew (2-1) allowed six runs, five of them earned, on nine hits in six innings of action.
