Box Score The Hawks collected 13 hits as Rockhurst posted a 12-5 non-conference win at Pittsburg State on Wednesday. Rockhurst was able to score six runs in the first inning and knock out the Gorillas' starting pitcher.

Rockhurst also got a big help in the first inning as Pitt State committed three errors and walked four. Sophomore center fielder
Chase Leavy drove in two runs on a two-run single to left center. Freshman outfielder
Jeremy Lufft and senior outfielder
Caleb Baker also added RBI singles.

Pitt State was able to cut the lead in half 6-3 as they scored three runs on three hits.The Gorillas then added one more in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI double by Pitt State third baseman Jack Mercer.

The Hawks then scored two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run single by redshirt senior designated hitter
Matt Stacks, a wild pitch and a solo home run by sophomore shortstop
Brett Marr. Marr also had a sacrifce fly in the seventh inning, driving in another run making the score 11-4.

Rockhurst was able to get one more run in the top of the ninth inning when the Gorillas committed yet another error. They finished the game with a total of five errors on the day. Pitt State was able to score one run in the ninth inning before the Hawks were able to close out the game.

Freshman Myles Kilgore got the start for Rockhurst. He pitched 3.0 innings and gave up four runs on five hits before handing the ball off to sophomore
Alex Merithew. Merithew had another dominant outing throwing 4.0 innings. He gave up no runs on four hits, struck out three, and walked none.

Merithew then handed the ball off to senior
Trenton Perry who was the Rockhurst set-up man. Perry struck out the first batter, gave up a single and then produced a 6-4-3 double play. Sophomore
David Stober then came in and closed out the game for the Hawks.

Baker and Marr paced Rockhurst's hitting attack with three hits apiece. Leavy and Lufft each collected two hits as well. Marr added two RBI and hit his second home run of the season. Merithew earned his second win of the season.

The Hawks will return to action on Saturday at Indianapolis where they will take on the Greyhounds. UIndy (2-5) is coming off a 7-6 win over Lee University out of Cleveland, Tenn. Rockhurst will play at 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday and 12 pm and 3 pm on Sunday (March 14-15).
