Box Score Sophomore
Michael Lydon-Lorson led the Hawks to a 9-3 win over the Tiffin Dragons (1-2) after an impressive complete game outing. Lydon-Lorson gave up three runs on 11 hits, while also striking out 11.
Lorson didn't give up a walk until the top of the ninth inning after rain had soaked the mound. This was his fourth career complete game.
Â
The Hawks (2-3) got on the board first in the third inning after senior catcher
Jake Jones hit a single down the first-base line. Senior DH
Matt Stacks then stepped up to the plate and with the count 0-1, launched an opposite field two-run home run over the left-field wall.
Â
The Dragons (1-2) were able to cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth inning. Tiffin shortstop Isaac Perry drove an RBI double to left field, one hopping the fence. Lydon-Lorson then bore down and got the next two batters to pop up and strike out, all while holding runners in scoring position at second and third.
Â
Tiffin was then able to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. Back-to-back hits up the middle put runners on first and second and they later were sacrificed into scoring position. Tiffin pinch hitter Alec McCurry was able to record a sacrifice fly when he hit a Texas Leaguer to the right side. Second baseman
Patrick Burns sprinted 30 yards and was able to make the catch in foul territory. However, he was unable to throw the runner out at home plate after the runner tagged up.
Â
Rockhurst broke it open in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs, all while batting around. The Hawks also got some help from Dragons pitching as they walked five batters and had one hit by pitch.
Â
Sophomore pinch hitter
Corbin Hare led off the inning with a laser to the left-field wall for a double. Burns then moved the runner over on a swinging bunt. Senior outfielder
Caleb Baker drew a walk and brought up sophomore shortstop
Brett Marr, who had the pivotal at-bat of the game.
Â
Marr saw 12 pitches and fouled off seven. The next pitch he saw was left up in the zone and Marr made him pay. He hit an RBI double that one-hopped the left-field fence, scoring Baker. From there, Tiffin pitching lost the touch and struggled to throw a strike.
Â
Jones led the Hawks' attack, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk. He also scored twice. Rockhurst will play Illinois Springfield today around 4:45 pm. The game will be broadcast live on the Hawks All Access Network. Tune in live to listen to the live audio-only broadcast
