Hawks face tough road test at Quincy

John Burke posted 13 points and 10 rebounds at Truman State Thursday night.

The Rockhurst Hawks (4-2, 1-0 GLVC) meet the Quincy Hawks (4-3, 1-0 GLVC) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup at 3:15 p.m. today. Quincy won their last meeting, 91-76, at Rockhurst on Jan. 22, 2015. Quincy leads the all-time series, 39-31.

"Quincy is really on a roll right now," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They have won three in a row and have guys that can really score. Our effort on the defensive end will need to be as intense as we had versus Truman."

Malachi Nix leads the Hawks in scoring (16.3 pg), assists (5.0 pg) and steals (2.0 pg). Nix ranks ninth in scoring, second in assists and is tied for fourth in steals in the GLVC. Austin LeVan ranks 22nd in scoring (13.8 pg), first in free throw percentage (96.0) and seventh in 3-point field goals made (2.50) in the GLVC. Alex Hagan ranks second in field goal percentage (75.9 percent) and eighth in rebounding in the GLVC.

The Hawks rank first in field goal percentage defense (38.6 percent), second in scoring defense (67.2 pg), first in 3-point field goal percentage defense (26.3 percent) and tied for first in scoring margin (11.0 pg) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst opened GLVC play with a 78-72 victory at Truman State Thursday night. Four players scored in double figures to lead the Hawks. Nix led the Hawks with 18 points and seven assists. LeVan came off the bench to score 18 points. Adam Fatkin posted 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. John Burke added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rockhurst shot 50.9 percent from the field (27 of 53) and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line (19 of 26).
