Box Score The Quincy Hawks jumped out to a nine-point halftime lead on the way to a 77-67 victory over Rockhurst Saturday at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois.
Quincy held Rockhurst to 32.0 percent shooting and scored 13 points off nine turnovers in the first half to taking a 40-31 lead into halftime. Quincy scored another 13 points off eight turnovers in the second half.
"Our guys competed hard," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "It was an intense environment the whole way through. At the end of the day, the 17 turnovers hurt us. They are great in transition, especially after turnovers. We will bounce back."
Rockhurst pulled within 64-60 with 4:47 left on a pair of free throws from Malachi Nix. Quincy ended the game on a 13-7 run.
Austin LeVan led the Hawks with 26 points on seven-of-16 shooting. LeVan connected on six 3-pointers. Nix posted 12 points and five assists. Adam Fatkin posted eight points and five rebounds. John Burke added eight points and seven rebounds.
Rockhurst shot 36.4 percent from the field (20 of 55) and 68.0 percent from the foul line (17 of 25). Quincy made 25-of-58 field goals for 43.1 percent shooting while canning 22-of-26 free throws (84.6 percent). Quincy outrebounded Rockhurst, 41-32.
The Hawks, 4-3 and 1-1 GLVC, host Ottawa in a non-conference game on December 16.
