Hawks travel to Truman State for GLVC opener

The Rockhurst Hawks (3-2) travel to Truman State (4-2) for their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Kirksville, Missouri. Truman State won their last meeting, 89-65, at Truman on Jan. 24, 2015. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 22-13.

"Obviously, with this being our GLVC opener there is a lot of anticipation," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We have great respect for how Truman plays. They play smart and very unselfish with each other. They score differently than most of the teams we have faced in non-league play. They have guys that have played together for some time and it shows."

Junior guard Malachi Nix leads the Hawks in scoring (16.0 pg), assists (4.6 pg) and steals (2.4 pg). Nix ranks 15th in scoring, third in assists and is tied for second in steals in the GLVC. Freshman guard Austin LeVan is averaging 13.0 points per game. LeVan ranks 28th in scoring, second in free throw percentage (94.7) and sixth in 3-point field goals made (2.6) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Alex Hagan is averaging 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Hagan is tied for seventh in rebounding in the GLVC.

The Hawks rank first in field goal percentage defense (39.1 percent), second in scoring defense (66.2 pg), second in 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.6 percent) and third in scoring margin (12.0 pg) in the GLVC.
