Box Score Austin LeVan and
Dominique Washington combined for 61 points to power Rockhurst to a 96-71 victory over Ottawa Wednesday afternoon at Mason-Halpin Field House.
LeVan scored 22 of his game-high 31 points in the first half. He shot 12-of-17 from the field, including seven-of-nine from behind the 3-point line, along with getting eight rebounds. Washington scored 30 points on 13-of-16 field goal shooting while hitting four-of-five 3-pointers.
"We really shot the ball well today," said Rockhurst coach
Drew Diener. "Dom and Austin were in a zone. I thought we could have defended better. Our defense has to be outstanding every day, I don't think it was outstanding today. We didn't talk well enough. We have to get better for our opponent on Saturday."
The Hawks jumped out to a 51-33 halftime lead while shooting 60.0 percent from the field. Washington scored 10 consecutive points for the Hawks to give Rockhurst an 85-59 lead with 6:19 left to play.
Malachi Nix posted 12 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Adam Fatkin tallied eight points and six rebounds.
Rockhurst shot 59.1 percent from the field (39 of 66) and 48.0 percent on 3-point shots (12 of 25). Ottawa made 25-of-60 field goals (41.7 percent) and 17-of-23 free throws (73.9 percent). Marshon Norfleet paced the Braves with 17 points.
The Hawks, 5-3, face Missouri-Kansas City in an exhibition game at 3:35 p.m. Saturday at Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium.
