Box Score 2 Blake Petersen hit a pinch-hit walk-off single and
Josh Tols threw a four-hit shutout to lead Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over Truman State in the first game of a conference doubleheader Saturday at RU's Loyola Park.
Petersen singled to right field to one out and the bases loaded in the ninth. Tols struck out 12 hitters and walked one in winning his fourth game of the season. The Hawks helped out by turning three double plays.
Brett Marr led the Hawks with two hits and three RBIs.
Josh Dennett and
Jake Jones both singled to set up Petersen's game-winning hit.
Truman State came back to win the second game, 11-10, and salvage the final game of the four-game series. The Bulldogs scored the winning run in the top of the seventh with an unearned run.
Dennett paced Rockhurst's 13-hit attack with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Marr,
Seth Soto and Jones each posted two hits.
Calin McCourt, Petersen and
Stu Jeck collected two RBIs apiece.
The Hawks, 17-27 and 15-16 in the GLVC, close out the regular season with a four-game series at Quincy on May 3-4.
