Hawks post 5-4 victory at William Jewell

Michael Lydon-Lorson won his first game of the season.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst scored five runs in the second inning and held off a William Jewell rally to post a 5-4 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of a conference doubleheader Tuesday in Liberty, Mo.

Patrick Burns singled home two runs in the second. Brett Marr and Dalton Thompson added RBI singles. Marr, Thompson and Seth Soto led the Hawks with two hits apiece.

Michael Lydon-Lorson won his first game of the season. The freshman right-hander allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two in six and two-thirds innings. Alex Seier got the final five outs to pick up his first save of the season.

The Cardinals shut out Rockhurst, 4-0, on eight hits in the second game. Marr and Josh Baker both collected two hits. Freshman Grant Otte (0-4) took the loss.

Rockhurst, 8-16 and 7-7 in the GLVC, hosts Washburn on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
