Rockhurst collects 13 hits in 8-2 win over Springfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst rebounded from a Game 1 loss to post an 8-2 victory over Illinois-Springfield in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday at RU's Loyola Park.

The Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead after four innings and scored four more runs over the final four innings. Stu Jeck led the 13-hit attack with three hits and two RBIs. Brett Marr drove in three runs with two hits. Josh Dennett added two hits and two RBIs.   

Thomas Woodard struck out three over six innings to pick up his first victory of the season. Michael Lydon-Lorson and Alex Seier held Springfield to two hits and one run over the final three innings.

The Prairie Stars rallied from a 3-1 deficit to wIn the first game, 5-3, in a seven-inning game. Springfield scored three runs in the fifth and added another tally in the seventh.

Marr singled home a run in the third to tie the score at 1-1. The Hawks scored twice in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Patrick Burns and a field error by the Prairie Stars. Grant Otte (0-2) went the distance while allowing six hits.

Rockhurst, 6-11 and 5-3 in the GLVC, hosts Bemidji State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
