Hawks post 88-83 victory at home over McKendree

Box Score Brandon McCann scored 19 of his team-high 23 points in the second half to lead Rockhurst to an 88-83 victory over McKendree Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Russell Burns finished with 20 points on nine-of-11 shooting. The biggest shot of the game was a tip-in by Burns off a missed free throw which gave Rockhurst a 79-78 lead with 1:30 left. Burns added two free throws with 10 seconds left.

Cooper Beckett added a season-high 17 points, to along with nine rebounds and six blocked shots. He had 11 points and five blocks in the first half.

Andrew Ellwanger, who scored nine points, put the Hawks in front for good at 83-81 with a running layup in the lane off a pass from Burns with 37 seconds left.

The Hawks shot 50 percent (35 of 70) from the field and connected on 13-of-16 free throws (81.3 percent). McKendree made 30 of 66 field goals (45.5 percent) and 12 of 21 free throws (61.9 percent). The Hawks outscored the Bearcats in the paint, 36-30.

Rockhurst will host Missouri S&T on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
