Hawks drop one-point nailbiter at Maryville

Liam Duffy scored a career-high 21 points at Maryville.
Box Score Rockhurst was unable to get off a game-winning shot in the final seconds as Maryville held on for a 73-72 victory over the Hawks Thursday night in St. Louis, Mo.

Maryville missed two free throws with five seconds left. Rockhurst's Liam Duffy got the rebound and threw a pass up the court. Brandon McCann got off a shot from the left corner, but after the buzzer sounded.

McCann made one of two free throws to give the Hawks a 72-71 lead with 45 seconds left. Maryville retook the lead with a pair of free throws with 23 seconds on the clock. The Saints got the ball back after McCann missed a layup with 10 seconds left.

McCann and Duffy combined for 47 points while connecting on 13 three-point field goals. McCann scored 26 points on seven-of-15 shooting. Duffy scored a career-high 21 points behind seven-of-eight three-point shooting.

Adam Fatkin led the Hawks with eight rebounds. James Robinson posted a team-high five assists. Rockhurst shot 48.9 percent (23 of 47) from the field, while hitting 13-of-19 three-pointers.

Maryville shot 46.8 percent from the field (22 of 47) and six of 17 from three-point range. The Saints won the game at the foul line, hitting 23-of-34 free throws while Rockhurst was 13 of 17 from the charity stripe.

Rockhurst, 5-12 and 1-9 in the GLVC, next plays at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday at 3 p.m.
