Second-half runs power Quincy past Rockhurst

Box Score Quincy shut down Rockhurst's offense in the second half to pull away for a 73-65 victory over the Hawks Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Brandon McCann scored 11 of his team-high 18 points to lead Rockhurst to a 39-38 halftime lead. Quincy took control of the game early in the second half after going on an 11-1 run to take a 51-42 lead with 13:35 left to play.

Rockhurst pulled within four points midway through the second half before Quincy used an 11-3 run to take a 12-point lead with five minutes remaining.

McCann was held to seven points on three-of-nine shooting in the second half. Russell Burns scored nine of his 15 points in the final 20 minutes. McCann and Burns led the Hawks with six rebounds. Cooper Beckett and James Robinson each collected five rebounds. Liam Duffy scored nine points on three three-point field goals.

Rockhurst shot 34.9 percent from the field on 22-of-63 shooting. Quincy made 23-of-53 field goals for 43.4 percent shooting.

The Hawks, 5-11 and 1-8 in the GLVC, play at Maryville on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
