First half spells trouble for Rockhurst at Drury

Seventh-ranked Drury exploded for 61 points on 62-percent shooting in the first half in rolling to a 104-69 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night in Springfield, Mo.

Rockhurst, 5-8 and 1-5 in the conference, has now lost its last six games against Drury. The Hawks are 0-4 in the four-year-old O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Drury jumped out to a 14-2 lead and eventually led 41-8 lead before going into halftime with an insurmountable 61-26 lead. Rockhurst outscored the defending national champions 41-36 in the final 17 minutes of the game.

Rockhurst's Brandon McCann scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. He was a perfect eight-for-eight at the foul line. Russell Burns (12) and Liam Duffy (11) also scored in double figures while combining for five three-point field goals. Cooper Beckett added nine points.

The Hawks shot 39 percent (24 of 61) from the field, while hitting eight of 27 three-pointers. Drury, 13-1 and 5-1 in the GLVC, shot 56 percent from the field (33 of 59), including 11 of 23 from three-point range.

Rockhurst travels to Rolla on Saturday to meet Missouri S&T in 3 p.m. tipoff.
