Rodolfo Gauto-Mariotti has been selected as the 2012-13 Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's tennis.
The league selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average which meets Academic All-America standards (3.30).
Gauto-Mariotti garners his first GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade after taking home back-to-back Academic All-America honors as he was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America At-Large First Team. He also received All-GLVC honors and was the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner for the NCAA Division II Midwest Region.
In singles action, Gauto-Mariotti posted a 17-7 record in No. 1 singles and was ranked eighth in the ITA Midwest Region. He also went 19-8 in doubles competition. The Asuncion, Paraguay, native turned in a 3.73 GPA for the semester and boasts a 3.96 cumulative GPA. He will graduate in December 2013 with a degree in economics.
“I am so proud of how Ro finished in his senior year. He was able to combine his talent and hard work to have a great career at Rockhurst,” said Rockhurst head men's tennis coach
Carolina Mayorga-Perry.
