Senior class finishes their careers at Rockhurst

Nine seniors closed out their careers at Rockhurst.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Nine seniors closed out their careers at Rockhurst on Monday in a twi-night doubleheader against Missouri S&T at RU's Loyola Park. Seven seniors combined for 16 of the Hawks' 20 hits in falling twice to the Miners, 8-5 in 10 innings and 6-3.

Missouri S&T rallied from a 5-0 deficit to to force extra innings in the first game. The Miners scored four runs in the fifth and plated the tying run in the seventh. S&T scored three runs on two hits and two walks in the 10th.

Seniors Jordan Stull and Anthony Davis delivered RBI singles in the second inning. Senior Nick Lichtenberger singled home a run in the third and junior Tyler Gans added a run-scoring double in the fourth. Senior Patrick Chandler and Stull both finished with two hits.

Senior right-hander Alex Seier held the Miners hitless over the first four innings. He allowed five hits and four runs while striking out eight over six innings. Zach Loeffelholz, 0-7, pitched the final three-plus innings.

In the nightcap, Missouri S&T scored three runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Chandler had an RBI single in the first. Senior Kirk Huismann added run-scoring singles in the fourth and sixth. Davis, Chandler and Huismann each collected a pair of hits. Starter Trenton Perry, 2-5, allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings.

Chandler led the Hawks with a .376 batting average with 15 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 14 stolen bases and 38 RBIs. Seier paced the pitching staff with seven wins, 18 appearances and 65.1 innings pitched while only walking four hitters. The Hawks, 18-27 overall, finished in a tie for sixth place in the GLVC West Division with a 13-23 record.
