Hawks finish road trip with split on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Senior right-hander Alex Seier improved his record to 6-0 to lead Rockhurst to an 8-1 victory over Illinois Springfield on Sunday in Chatham, Ill. The Prairie Stars edged the Hawks 5-4 in the second game.

Seier won his first start of the season, holding Springfield to one run on five hits while striking out two in five innings. Nick Lichtenberger allowed one hit over the final two innings,  

Jordan Eckley paced the Hawks with three hits while driving in two runs. Brandon Tangney drove in three runs with a single and double. Tyler Gans collected two hits and two RBIs. Patrick Chandler added two hits with an RBI.

In the second game, Springfield scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Josh Dennett and Josh Baker each collected two hits. Tangney doubled home a run in the third, followed by an RBI single from Anthony Davis. The Hawks tied the score in the seventh on an RBI double from Chandler and run-scoring single from Gans. Josh Samuelson (0-2) held the Prairie Stars to two hits and one unearned run over the final four innings.

The Hawks (14-12, 9-9 GLVC) return to action with a doubleheader at Maryville on Saturday.
