Rockhurst drops pair of games to Maryville Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Maryville took advantage of seven walks and an error to defeat Rockhurst, 7-5, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday in St. Louis. The Saints also won the first game, 2-1, with a two-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Hawks walked three Saints in the fifth to give Maryville a 3-2 lead in the nightcap. A hit batter led to another Maryville run in the sixth. The Saints scored three unearned runs in the seventh. Rockhurst scored three runs in the eighth on three hits and left the tying run at the plate in the ninth.

Rockhurst outhit Maryville 15-5. Brandon Tangney and Tyler Gans each collected three hits for the Hawks. Josh Dennett, Nick Lichtenberger and Jordan Stull added two hits apiece. Josh Samuelson, 0-3, allowed two hits and six walks in four-plus innings.

Maryville held the Hawks to three hits in the first game. Patrick Chandler gave Rockhurst a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single. Maryville starter Brett Hancock struck out 10 Hawks. Trenton Perry held the Saints to one run on four hits over the first five innings. Alex Seier, 7-1, suffered his first loss of the season.

The Hawks (15-15, 10-12 GLVC) play a doubleheader at William Jewell at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
