Hawks edge Quincy with walk-off single in the 10th

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Jordan Eckley singled home the winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Rockhurst an 8-7 victory over Quincy in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at RU's Loyola Park.

The Hawks rallied twice from three-run deficits to tie the score. Alex Seier came out of the bullpen to hold Quincy scoreless over the final four innings to improve his record to 5-0. Eckley and Brandon Tangney led the 19-hit Rockhurst assault with three hits apiece. Tyler Gans, Patrick Chandler, Caleb Baker, Josh Dennett, Nick Lichtenberger and Jordan Stull each collected two hits.

Quincy came back in the second game to hold off Rockhurst for a 3-2 win in a seven-inning game. Rockhurst scored both of its runs in the sixth to pull within a run of Quincy. The Hawks could not take advantage of 11 walks while stranding 10 runners. Thomas Woodard (3-1) allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out six.

The Hawks (10-8, 5-5 GLVC) close out their weekend series with Quincy with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
