Hawks split doubleheader at Bellarmine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Sophomore right-hander Thomas Woodard won his third game of the season to lead Rockhurst to a 5-4 victory over Bellarmine to gain a split of a conference doubleheader Friday in Louisville, Ky.

Woodard (3-0) held the Knights to three runs on four hits over six innings. Kyle Samuelson came out of the bullpen to pitch the final inning and collect his sixth save of the season.

Patrick Chandler tripled home two runs in the first ining. Jordan Eckley doubled home a run and Josh Baker added an RBI single in the third. Eckley went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Bellarmine outscored Rockhurst 5-2 in the first game. The Knights scored two runs in the seventh and added two insurance runs in the eighth. Anthony Davis and Kirk Huismann drove in the Hawks' runs with singles in the top of the eighth. Caleb Baker posted four of Rockhurst's 10 hits. Sophomore right-hander Zach Loeffelholz (0-3) allowed nine hits over seven innings.

Rockhurst (8-6, 3-3 GLVC) will conclude the four-game series at Bellarmine with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
