Hawks drop conference opening games at home

Patrick Chandler collected five hits in Friday's games.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst stranded 17 runners while collecting 21 hits in dropping a conference-opening doubleheader to Southern Indiana, 7-6 and 4-1, Friday at RU's Loyola Park. The Hawks (4-5, 0-2 GLVC) host the Screaming Eagles in another conference doubleheader on Saturday at noon.

Southern Indiana jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first game behind a six-run third inning. RU's Patrick Chandler singled home two runs in the fifth. Jordan Stull added two RBIs with a single in the sxith and a double in the eighth. The Hawks left the bases loaded in the eighth after pulling within a run of the Eagles.

Stull led the Hawks with three hits. Chandler, Anthony Davis and Nick Lichtenberger each added two hits. Zach Loeffelholz pitched the first four innings as his record fell to 0-2. Joey Greco and Alex Seier held the Eagle to one hit over the final five innings.

In the second game, Southern Indiana scored three runs in the fifth while hitting three RBI doubles to break a 1-1 tie. The Hawks ended the game with the tying run at the plate. Josh Dennett singled home the only run in the first inning,.

Chandler paced Rockhurt with three hits. Josh Baker added a single and double to RU's nine-hit attack. Trenton Perry (0-1) took the loss in his first college start.
