Rockhurst falls short in final game of the season

Rockhurst ended the season with a heartbreaking 64-59 loss to William Jewell Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. The Hawks could not recover from a 16-0 run by Jewell inside the last eight minutes of the game.

A Brandon McCann layup gave Rockhurst a 47-44 lead with 7:51 left to play. Jewell took advantage of four Rockhurst turnovers to connect on six consecutive field goals to take a 60-47 lead with three minutes left. The Hawks went on a 12-3 run to pull within four points with 16 seconds on the clock. Michael Osepa miseed a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining that could have cut Jewell's lead to two points.

McCann led the Hawks with 17 points and three assists. McCann hit six-of-12 shots from the field and a perfect four-of-four at the foul line. Osepa tied a career-high with 10 points on four-of-seven shooting, along with grabbing six rebounds. Logan Souder posted nine points and four rebounds. Cooper Beckett added seven points and nine rebounds.

Brett Hornung was honored in Senior Night festitivites before the game. The Hawks hit 23-of-56 shots for 41.1 percent shooting. Rockhurst (4-21, 3-15 GLVC) also lost the rebound battle, 44-32.
