Jewell edges Hawks on a half-court buzzer

Box Score A three-point shot from beyond halfcourt at the buzzer ruined Rockhurst's conference opener at William Jewell Thursday night. Dwight Sistrunk hit the winning shot from 65 feet to give the Cardinals a 97-94 victory in Liberty, Mo. The Hawks rallied from five points down in the final 30 seconds to tie the game at 94 on a long three-point shot from Liam Duffy with 2.1 seconds left.

Brandon McCann scored a career-high 36 points to lead the Hawks. McCann made nine-of-14 three-pointers to go along with four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Adam Fatkin added 10 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Ellwanger and Duffy both scored nine points. Nardie Bogues added eight points and a career-high 11 assists.

The Hawks shot 45.6 percent from the field (31 of 68), while Jewell made 30-of-59 field goals (50.8 percent). Jewell won the rebound battle, 37-33.

Rockhurst, 3-4 and 0-1 in the GLVC, host Calvary Bible College on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
