Box Score The Rockhurst Hawks dropped their home opener to Emporia State, 74-62, Sunday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.
Emporia State rallied late in the first half to take a 38-37 halftime lead. The Hornets pulled away in the second half while holding Rockhurst to 26.7 percent shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Cooper Beckett and Nardie Bogues led the Hawks with nine points apiece. Joshua Brannon, Brandon McCann and Russell Burns each scored eight points. Brannon, Burns and Beckett tied for team-high honors in rebounds with five.
The Hawks, 1-0, play at Lincoln University on Wednesday night.
