Rockhurst men's soccer fell to unbeaten Lincoln, 3-0, Wednesday (Sept. 23) night at Bourke Field in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Hawks moved to 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-2 in GLVC play, while Lincoln remained unbeaten at 4-0-3 overall and 3-0-2 in conference action. Rockhurst finished with 15 shots, including 10 in the second half, and put five attempts on goal. Lincoln held a narrow 17-15 advantage in total shots.
Lincoln broke through in the 34th minute when Jonathan Nemorden found the back of the net to give the Blue Tigers a 1-0 lead. Rockhurst responded with a pair of chances late in the half from Cameron Ayoade and Nicolas Schrag, but entered halftime trailing by one.
The Blue Tigers extended the lead in the 54th minute as Alysson Portela Barboza scored off an assist from Nicholas Asante. Rockhurst quickly answered with pressure of its own, as Elijah Riese and Troy Lor each put shots on goal less than a minute apart, but Lincoln goalkeeper Felipe Mattos turned away both attempts.
The Hawks continued to push forward throughout the second half. Riese forced another save in the 73rd minute before Connor Gaarder put two shots on goal later in the half. Mattos finished with five saves to preserve the shutout.
Nemorden added his second goal of the night in last few minutes of time to close out the scoring. Freshman Luke Strueby made three saves in goal for Rockhurst.
