Rockhurst men's soccer battled Upper Iowa to a 3-3 draw Saturday (Sept. 26) in Fayette, Iowa, after the Peacocks scored the equalizer late in the match.
Upper Iowa struck first in the fifth minute when Sebastian Camargo scored to give the Peacocks an early 1-0 advantage. Rockhurst responded in the 17th minute as Daniele Ciancaglini found the back of the net off assists from Rhys Laws and Nick Marchetti. Less than four minutes later, Riley Mcgill scored off a feed from Ciancaglini to put the Hawks ahead 2-1.
Upper Iowa tied the match at 2-2 early in the second half on Jannik Schlegel's goal in the 49th minute. Rockhurst regained the lead in the 70th minute when Laws scored off an assist from Sam McIntosh, giving the Hawks a 3-2 advantage.Â
The Hawks continued to create chances after taking the lead, putting four more shots on goal over the next eight minutes. Upper Iowa found the equalizer with just 14 seconds remaining, as Nahum Ghyslain Wellot Samba scored in the 89th minute to make it 3-3.
Rockhurst controlled much of the offensive action, finishing with a 22-8 advantage in shots and 9-4 edge in shots on goal. The Hawks also held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Upper Iowa goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen made six saves, while Rockhurst's Samuele Neri finished with one.
McGill led Rockhurst with five shots and three shots on goal, while Laws finished with a goal and an assist and Ciancaglini added a goal and an assist. Rockhurst moved to 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-3 in GLVC play with the draw. They look towards next Saturday (Oct. 3) as they come back home to face Maryville.
