Rockhurst men's soccer battled Quincy to a 0-0 draw Saturday (Sept. 19) afternoon at Bourke Field. The Hawks move to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in GLVC play, while Quincy moves to 4-1-3 overall and 3-0-2 in conference action.
Rockhurst created two chances in the opening eight minutes. Elijah Riese put the first shot on goal in the eighth minute, forcing a save from Quincy goalkeeper Jake Offerman, before Troy Lor followed with another attempt just seconds later. Quincy responded in the 13th minute when Leo Cann put a shot on frame, but freshman goalkeeper Luke Strueby made the save.
Neither side was able to break through before halftime as Rockhurst recorded three shots and two corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes. The Hawks continued to create opportunities after the break, earning three more corners and getting attempts from Lor and Liam Dean during the opening 30 minutes of the second half.
Quincy nearly broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when Rylan Fischer put an attempt on goal, but Strueby came up with his second save of the afternoon. Cann led Quincy with three shots, including one on goal, while Fischer added the visitors' other shot on frame.
Rockhurst made a late push for the game-winner. Connor Gaarder fired an attempt over the crossbar in the 85th minute before Sam McIntosh came inches away from giving the Hawks the victory, hitting the left post with just 1:08 remaining.
Quincy finished with a narrow 8-7 advantage in shots, but Rockhurst held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Lor led the Hawks with two shots, while Riese recorded Rockhurst's shot on goal. Offerman made one save for Quincy, while Strueby stopped both shots he faced to earn the clean sheet.
The shutout was Rockhurst's second in its last three matches. The Hawks return to Bourke Field on Wednesday (Sept. 23) to host Lincoln in GLVC action at 7:30 p.m.
