Rockhurst men's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Truman State on Wednesday (Sept. 9) night at Bourke Field. The Hawks fall to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
After a scoreless first half, Truman State broke through in the 65th minute when Roman Scognamillo scored on a 20-yard breakaway. The Bulldogs' goal proved to be the difference as Rockhurst was unable to find the equalizer.
The Hawks created several opportunities late in the match, including back-to-back shots from Riese in the 76th and 78th minutes. Riese's first attempt was stopped by a team save, while his second was saved by Truman State goalkeeper Owen Robben. Rockhurst also earned two corner kicks in the final 15 minutes as it continued to pressure for an equalizer.
Rockhurst finished with six shots, including four on goal, while Truman State also recorded six shots with one on target. Elijah Riese led the Hawks with three shots, all of which were on goal, while Jacob Phillips added one shot on target.
Luke Strueby played all 90 minutes in goal for Rockhurst. The freshman goalkeeper faced one shot on goal and finished with no saves as Truman State's lone shot on target resulted in the game's only goal.
Rockhurst returns to action Saturday (Sept. 12) at Lewis for its first GLVC road match of the season.
