Rockhurst earned a share of the first-ever GLVC regular season championship with a 3-1 victory over Roosevelt Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Hawks have also earned a berth to the first-ever GLVC Men's Volleyball Conference Tournament.
The Hawks (19-11, 12-2 GLVC) have matched their win total from last year's inaugural season when they finished with a 19-11 mark. RU ended the season as winners of 15 of its final 17 matches, with 12 of the 15 wins ending in three sets.
Rockhurst took the first set, 25-20. Roosevelt was up 24-20 late in the second set, but the Hawks went on a 4-0 run to tie it at 24 after a successful RU challenge overturned set point by the Lakers. A Tyler Zippay kill capped off the 28-26 second-set win for the Hawks.
The Lakers took the third set, 27-25, but the Hawks won 25-8 in the fourth set.
Shay Spadaro (21) and Lucas Tran (18) combined for 39 kills. Tyler Zippay had a team-leading three service aces. Wesley Yusk tallied six blocks. Zippay also led Rockhurst in assists (52) and digs (eight).
The Hawks had 62 kills, six service aces, 12 team blocks, 57 assists and 35 digs.
RU will face Missouri S&T in the GLVC Conference Tournament semifinals in St. Louis on Saturday, April 25.
