Rockhurst ended the weekend with a doubleheader split with Southwest Baptist on Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri. The Hawks won Game 1, 4-1, and the Bearcats outscored Rockhurst, 16-12, in the second game.
Game 1: RU 4, SW Baptist 1
Keller Costello pitched a complete game victory for his third win of the season. The freshman right-hander held the Bearcats to one run on four hits and struck out six in 7.0 innings.
The Hawks scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Colton Wemhoff and a wild pitch. Rockhurst added runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Michael Laudando and a passed ball.
Wemhoff, Afton Koch and Michael Novak each had two hits.
Game 2: SW Baptist 16, RU 12
Southwest Baptist jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the fourth behind a pair of five-run innings. The Bearcats finished with three home runs and 15 hits.
Laudando led the 14-hit Rockhurst attack with four hits, three RBI and three runs scored. Wemhoff posted three hits, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Gustavo Leon added two hits, two runs and two RBI.
Garrison Mertz held the Bearcats to one earned run on four hits and struck out four over 2.2 innings.
