Men win conference opener in straight sets

Rockhurt Men's Vollleyball opened conference play with a 3-0 victory over Jamestown (N.D.) Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks defeated the Jimmies (6-12, 0-1 GLVC) 25-10 in the first set and 25-14 in the second set. A Will Sutphen kill with a Tyler Zippay assist gave Rockhurst a 25-12 win in the third set to secure their season-long four-match winning streak.


Sutphen tallied 11 kills and three blocks. Quentin Huhman posted 11 kills with a .833 hitting percentage. Zippay had a team-leading 29 assists. Wesley Yusk collected a team-high four blocks.
 
Shay Spadaro led Rockhurst with four service aces and added eight kills, three assists, six digs and three blocks. Ryan Collins had seven digs. 

The Hawks hit .474 overall, including .619 in the second set. Rockhurst also finished with 36 kills, nine service aces, seven team blocks, 32 assists and 27 digs.

Rockhurst (8-9, 1-0 GLVC) hosts Jamestown on Saturday at 2 p.m.
