Freshman right-hander Keller Costello held Roosevelt to one hit over seven innings to lead Rockhurst to a 9-3 victory over the Lakers in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Sunday in Davenport, Florida.
On Monday, the Hawks fell to Minnesota Crookston, 8-5, in Auburndale, Florida, to drop their season record to 9-2 with two games left to play in Florida on Tuesday.
Game 1: RU 9, Roosevelt 3
Josh Syfert and Luke Schultz both homered to lead the Rockhurst offense. Syfert homered to left field in the first, while Schultz went deep to right field in the fourth.
The Hawks scored five runs on one hit, a two-run single by Afton Koch, in the eighth inning.
Costello (2-0) struck out 12 hitters and walked three.
Game 2: Minnesota Crookston 8, RU 5
Minnesota Crookston took advantage of six Rockhurst errors to rally from a 4-3 deficit in the seventh inning.
The Hawks scored three runs on three runs on three hits in the sixth. Dakota Hanna tied the game with a two-run single. Luke Schultz grounded out to the pitcher to drive in the go-ahead run.
Michael Laudando, Kaden Jeffries and Braeden Barbee each posted two hits to lead Rockhurst.
