Huhman, DeRoy lead Hawks to five-set victory

A Quentin Huhman kill and an Aron DeRoy service ace pushed the Hawks past Missouri S&T 16-14 in the fifth set to win the match in five sets on Thursday in Rolla, Missouri. The Hawks extend their winning streak to six straight.

Rockhurst rallied from deficits of 10-8, 11-9 and 12-10 in the fifth set to tie it at 12-12. The fifth set was also tied at 13-13 and 14-14 before the Hawks earned the final two points of the match.

The Miners won the first set, 25-21, as Rockhurst tied the match with a 25-18 victory in the second set. RU took the third set 25-21 before Missouri S&T tied the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.

Huhman led the Hawks with 20 kills with 20 and 22 points. Tyler Zippay tallied a team-leading 53 assists. Shay Spadaro notched 15 kills and led the team in digs with 11.

Will Sutphen collected 13 kills. He and DeRoy tied for the team-lead with two service aces each. DeRoy finished with four blocks.

Rockhurst had 62 kills, seven service aces, seven team blocks, 58 assists and 43 digs.

The Hawks (10-9, 3-0 GLVC) face Missouri S&T on Friday at 4 p.m. in Rolla, Missouri.
