Wesley, Dinkins power Hawks to 89-71 win over Jewell

Jaylen Wesley and Drenin Dinkins combined for 60 points to lead Rockhurst to an 89-71 KC Crown win over William Jewell Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks have now won five in a row, their longest winning streak of the season, and have won nine out of their last 10.

A Peyton Newbern layup finished an 11-0 run that gave the Hawks a 22-7 lead at the 11:45 mark. Rockhurst ended the half on a 27-13 run to take a 49-20 lead into the break. Wesley (20) and Dinkins (12) points in the first half. 

The Hawks took their largest lead of the game at 51-20 with 19:33 left. Rockhurst shot 57.14 percent (16-of-28) from the field and 50 percent (4-of-8) from the three-point line in the second half to seal the win.

Wesley scored 32 points, one point shy of tying his career-high of 33 points. His six steals matched the most in a game by a Hawk in nearly two years. Wesley also notched six rebounds.

Dinkins finished with 28 points on 83.3 percent (10-of-12) shooting from the field, 80 percent (four-of-five) from the 3-point line and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Dating back to the Illinois Springfield win on Jan. 15, Dinkins has made 55 of his last 56 free throws.

Jaden Flournoy had nine points and six rebounds. Dillon Mong tallied 10 points and four rebounds.

The Hawks shot 56.3 percent (36-of-64) and 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from three. Rockhurst was 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free-throw line.
