Hawks win first-ever GLVC regular season title

The Rockhurst men's basketball team won their first GLVC regular season championship in program history with a 73-58 win over McKendree Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House. 

Thursday's win also marks the first conference title for Rockhurst Men's Basketball in 23 years. The Hawks previously shared a league title in 2003 while in the Heartland Conference.

The 19th-ranked Hawks are on a 10-game winning streak, which is their longest since 1978. They are now winners of 14 of their last 15 and are 14-2 in 2026.

After McKendree went on a 9-1 run to take a 22-21 lead with 6:25 left, the Hawks used an 8-0 run to go up 29-22. Rockhurst took a 34-30 lead into the break.

Drenin Dinkins scored the first seven points of the second half to give Rockhurst a 41-30 lead with 16:13 to go. The Bearcats cut the lead to 50-48 at the 6:24 mark, but threes by Jaylen Wesley, Jaden Flournoy and Micah Deaver sparked a 9-0 run to increase the RU lead to 59-48 with 3:11 left.

Dinkins led all scorers with 29 points (21 in the second half). He added nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and was 13-of-14 from the free-throw line. Wesley recorded 22 points (15 in the first half) and five rebounds.

Flournoy tallied 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Deaver finished with five points and four rebounds. Jack Scott notched four rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

RU shot 32.3 percent (20-of-62) from the field, 38.7 percent (12-of-31) from three and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the free-throw line.
