Men rally for 3-2 win over Concordia Irvine

Lucas Tran and Shay Spadaro combined for 37 kills to lead Rockhurst to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Concordia Irvine Friday in Irvine, California.

The Hawks won the first set, 25-19. Irvine took the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21. Rockhurst captured the fourth set, 29-27, to force a decisive fifth set.

The Golden Eagles cut Rockhurst's lead to 7-6 in the fifth set before a 5-2 run extended the lead to 12-8. A Spadaro kill sealed the match to give the Hawks a 15-13 clinching win.

Tran posted 20 kills and four digs. Spadaro collected 17 kills, 11 digs and three service aces. Ryan Collins led the Hawks with 14 digs.

Nathan Jacques tallied a team-high 52 assists and four service aces, along with collecting seven digs. Wesley Yusk notched a team-leading six blocks, Aron DeRoy added nine kills and five blocks.

The Hawks finished with 59 kills, 56 assists, 45 digs, eight service aces and 12 team blocks.

Rockhurst (1-1) plays against UC San Diego on Sunday at 7 p.m. Pacific Time in La Jolla, California.
