Wesley leads Hawks to 85-79 win over UMSL

Jaylen Wesley posted 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead Rockhurst to an 85-79 victory over Missouri-St. Louis Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

UMSL made two free throws to take a 56-52 lead at the 11-minute mark in the second half. Over the next eight minutes, the Hawks went on a 23-12 run to take a 75-68 lead. The Hawks held the lead for the rest of the game.

A Wesley layup capped a 19-6 Rockhurst run to take a 41-36 lead into halftime. Drenin Dinkins (11), Wesley (10), and Peyton Newbern (six) combined for 27 first-half points.

Newbern tied a season-high with his 16 points and added three rebounds. Dinkins scored 13 points before fouling out with 11 minute left. Jaden Flournoy collected six points and four rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 50 percent (24-of-48) from the floor and 46.5 percent (7-of-15) from the three-point line. The Hawks also shot 76.9 percent (30-of-39) from the free-throw line.
