Hawks end weekend with 4-0 record

Mary Kate Mulvaney collected 26 assists and Sarah Pyle posted 25 kills lead Rockhurst to a 3-2 win over Fort Hays State Saturday in Hays, Kansas. The Hawks finished the Fort Hays State Tiger Invitational with a 4-0 record, earning their second 4-0 start in the last three seasons.

Pyle, Alyssa McDonald and Molly Trachta were named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Rockhurst won 25-15 in the second set and 25-19 in the third set. Fort Hays State won 25-22 in the first set and 29-27 in the fourth set.

After the final set was tied at 14, kills by McDonald and Lexi Theis won the match for the Hawks.

Mulvaney and Trachta combined for 50 assists. Katie Vargo had a team-leading 21 digs, as Pyle collected 14.

McDonald tallied 12 kills, and Trachta led Rockhurst with three service aces. Delaney Hope added nine blocks.

The Hawks had 63 kills, six service aces, 15 blocks, 58 assists and 66 digs.

Rockhurst won the final three sets to earn a 3-1 victory against Arkansas Tech earlier in the day.

Arkansas Tech won the first set 25-21, but the Hawks bounced back with a 14-5 start in the second set to win 25-19. The Hawks won the third and fourth set by scores of 25-22.

Pyle had 17 kills, three blocks and 12 digs. Trachta and Mulvaney combined for 41 assists. Trachta, Pyle and Theis combined for 35 digs. McDonald added 12 kills.

Overall, Rockhurst tallied 53 kills, six service aces, 11 blocks, 49 assists and 74 digs.

The Hawks face California State San Bernardino on Thursday at the Ice Block Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska at 2:30 p.m. AKT (5:30 p.m. CST).
