Hawks drop pair of matches in Alaska

The Rockhurst women's volleyball team finished play at the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska with a 3-1 loss to Alaska Fairbanks (25-17, 22-25, 14-25, 22-25).

Alyssa McDonald led the Hawks with 16 kills. Delaney Hope had a team-leading six blocks with 12 kills. Molly Trachta collected a team-high 21 assists and posted 11 digs.

Sarah Pyle tallied nine kills, 13 digs and four service aces. Pyle was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Hawks notched 52 kills, eight service aces, eight blocks, 49 assists and 54 digs.

Earlier on Saturday, Rockhurst fell 3-1 to Alaska Anchorage (20-25, 22-25, 28-26, 23-25).

McDonald (15), Pyle (12) and Hope (11) combined for 38 kills. Hope also led the Hawks with five blocks. Pyle and Lexi Theis each tallied a service ace. 

Mary Kate Mulvaney and Trachta combined for 46 assists. Theis and Katie Vargo each recorded 13 digs. Trachta also collected 12 digs.

The Hawks collected 62 kills, two service aces, nine blocks, 58 assists and 66 digs.

The Hawks (4-4) travel to Kirksville, Missouri to play three matches at the Truman State Tournament Sept. 19-20.
